I want to make a better experience for customers visiting Apple Stores with a new technology.

I've been into design technology and tested various possibilities with the technologies. Technology has no meaning in itself, and a designer uses technology to solve people's problems and develop their experiences.

Prototype

I created a new AR experience for Apple Store.

Design Sprint Process

This project was conducted in a quick timeline of 2 weeks.

Target User

My target is users who are not tech-savvy enough to recognize the differences between the displayed Apple Computer Products.

The Apple Store always strives to give users the best experience. Still, Apple's primary customers are divided into two main categories: professional heavy users and light users with low technical information understanding.

Problem

Because of the simplest aesthetic Apple pursues, it’s hard to recognize the differences between the Mac products, and detailed differences like tech specs are hard to check in the store.

This is a video recorded on a MacBook on display in the Apple Store. As you can see, checking the detailed tech specs of the product takes several steps. Also, the Tech Specs information could be more intuitive.

Ideation

Storyboard

This storyboard images were generated using MidJourney AI.

1. Mark is a student of Egyptology at Brown University. Mark visited the Apple Store to find a new laptop to use for schoolwork because his old PC broke down.

2. The Apple Store displayed a variety of newly released macbooks, and Mark pressed the same-looking laptops one by one.

3. Mark, who had no interest in computers or IT products, was even more confused by Apple's Macbook product line because of its strong product ecosystem. Additionally, Apple's minimal design philosophy made all products appear identical to Mark's eyes.

4. Mark opened his phone's camera app to focus on several MacBooks that looked the same, and then each product's technical features and detailed specifications began to be seen in front of him.

Design

Design Process

1. Use the MacBook's wallpaper displayed in the Apple Store as a source for Image tracking.

2. Design each MacBook's detailed tech specs and information and model it using the 3D tool.

3. Design a program that shows a 3D model on it in three dimensions when you scan a particular image using Unity and Vuforia plug-ins.
